A Tribe Called Quest – Midnight Marauders – Dear 1993: I love you.
http://1.fm/ – “Bombay Beats” (also through iTunes radio). Fun Bollywood type stuff. 1.fm also has other good stuff, but there are commercials.
Telepopmusik – Genetic World – French, smart, easy, nice. Perhaps my next lover will be similar.
This video over and over, a live performance of the song, “Nadia,” by Nitin Sawhney & Reena Bhardwaj. One of those magical live performances that you would never forget.
Tricky – Maxinquaye – Where was I? I am in love. Dude was a part of the orig Massive Attack.
PJ Harvey – To Bring You My Love – Rock on, Lady. I’m so listening to the early 90’s.
Imogen Heap – Pretty. Creative.
Bombay Dub Orchestra – Simply beautiful, sometimes a snore (yer mama next to me).
One Self – Bomb diggity hot hot. DJ Vadim, word. What the hell is wrong with you? Click on that shit.
Peaches – How. Have. I. Not. Known. About. Peaches. !!!!! Um, just a titch dirty, so you know.
Earthbound Radio – Found it on iTunes Radio. This is real a community-based, networked radio station that are hard to find. You could even see a you-tube documentary about it. The real hip-hop and rap, not the crap you hear on top 40 radio that makes you closed-minded about the genre.
Sing-Sing Radio – They seriously play it all, seamlessly entwining macabre jazz with middle eastern and funk, and more. Humpable. It’s French, so see the little bubble on the top right that says, “Ecouter Sing Sing,” and then hit the “Bas Debit,” or “Haut Debit,” and it will open up a standard player.
soukous.org – “Longest-running station playing African and Caribbean music on-line.” There’s a large variety of how to listen to it, up to and including naked in your living roo
Lush (station) from SomaFM – “Sensual and mellow vocals, mostly female, with an electronic influence.” SomaFM is awesome. They are “listener-supported, commercial-free, underground/alternative radio broadcasting from San Francisco” (home page). Major resource for me.
Brazilian Girls – Love them. So much. All of their albums – so good. Watch this, it says it all.
The Cinematic Orchestra – Um, forever sealed the deal for me. I feel real reverent about this group of smarty-pants.

Music Influences

http://www.sixdegreesrecords.com/
Six Degrees Records is a record label I found through two different loves – dj Cheb i Sabbah (http://www.chebisabbah.com/) or (http://www.myspace.com/chebisabbahji), and dZihan & kamien (http://www.myspace.com/dzihankamien), and have came across many other artists I am in love with.
The website for Six Degrees Records is a wonderful resource – you can listen to parts of just about any artist’s albums, free downloads, news, concert info, compilation cd’s, ect. I think like it so much because they cater to the world music/electronica/hybrid stuff, but really the artists that sign on with them are beyond amazing. For example, Ojos de Brujo (http://www.ojosdebrujo.com/) or (http://www.myspace.com/ojosdebrujo) make me want to hump them, they are that good. Dude! Watch this video of Ojos de Brujo and you will want to hump them too! I can actually promise on this one.
__________
KEXP (http://kexp.org/) is a non-profit Seattle based radio station. Mostly they play all that crappy stuff that tries to be all, “I’m a really deep dude with quirky things to say and I play the guitar with my really intelligent band.” So I pretty much look for news and listen to the program, Wo’Pop. on-line.
__________
Zap Mama (http://www.zapmama.be/) or (http://www.myspace.com/zapmama) has been with me a long time. I have enjoyed watching her evolve over the 14 years I’ve been listening. She put on the best concert I have ever been to – her Ancestry tour. Goddess.
__________
Bear McCreary (http://bearmccreary.com/). Look, if y’all haven’t seen Battlewhore Galactica, I’m not sure we should know each other. What is wrong with you people?
Go to his On-line Demo section and try one of the categories, any thing from Battlestar. If you really want your socks knocked off, try this and try this.
__________
Propellerhead (http://www.propellerheads.se/) Software for writing music. I wish some Swedish person would come and tutor me on how the hell to use it, but it is way cool anyway. The Propellerheads came out with a kickass CD a while ago, and then they decided to share all their software with us. The way one can write drum tracks is mind-blowing.
__________
Nitin Sawhney (http://www.nitinsawhney.com/music/) or easily listen to his music on his myspace (http://www.myspace.com/nitinsawhney). He’s a British-Indian dude who travels the world, absorbs words, images, the Earth, and music, and writes some very powerful hybrid stuff. He is socially conscious and an extremely talented artist. I think I love him.
